For centuries, the springs that emerged in a deep forest of the granite massif of High Tatras have been known to settlers who were looking for forest fruits, mushrooms, and other underground riches. Already the royal official Juraj Wernher (1497-1567), captain of the Saris Castle, in his work on “The Wonderful Waters of Hungary”, issued in Basel in 1549, paid attention to Spiš’s mineral waters, healing and thermal springs and at the foot of the Tatras he mentioned two rare springs. Around these springs, which had many different names through the ages, the first buildings in the area have been building, especially for the use of forest workers and later as leisure centers and Spa. From 1707, the water has been filled in stylish constructed cabins, used for local distribution, and even traded throughout the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, from the High Tatras to Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg, and even to Constantinople-today's Istanbul.

Thanks to the granite of which the height Tatra mountains consist, the spring is low in minerals, but on the other hand, thanks to a tectonic crack, the water is being pushed from underneath from Co2, and that’s where the water gets the natural carbonization.

Since 1997, TANAWA has been dedicated to resurrecting the time-honored tradition of bottling the region's unique natural mineral water, a tradition shattered by the destructive forces of the communist regime in 1965. In 2004, the springs faced another perilous threat when extreme winds led to their disappearance, prompting a monumental rescue effort by specialists.

After years of tireless work, encompassing administrative tasks, meticulous design, and the construction of essential infrastructure, TANAWA's perseverance bore fruit with the initiation of production in 2017. This marked a significant milestone in restoring the revered tradition, representing a triumph over adversity.

Today, TANAWA proudly unveils the culmination of its efforts to the world: naturally carbonated mineral water with low mineralization sourced from the pristine environment of a national park. This achievement pays homage to the region's rich history and natural splendor and serves as a testament to TANAWA's unwavering commitment to preserving and sharing this precious resource with the global community.
