Sources of Water

Blind tasting at room temperature for all waters. Sparkling water will be opened within 2 minutes of tasting. Dedicated premium water-specific stemware.

Competition Categories:
STILL waters are separated into categories according to the Minerality (TDS – Total Dissolved Solids) starting at a SUPER LOW Category (<50mg/l) usually consisting of Iceberg, rain or glacial waters. The LOW Category (< 250mg/l) holds usually the most waters from sources like springs and artesian. For waters with a higher Minerality are the MEDIUM CATEGORY (<800mg/l), HIGH CATEGORY (>800mg/l).

CURATED WATERS, this is a new category consisting of waters from a natural source that have been curated for new experiences.

SPARKLING waters are represented by the ADDED CARBONATION Category for waters with artificially added carbonation, most sparkling waters are in this category. waters a separated into categories according to the Minerality (TDS – Total Dissolved Solids) starting at a SUPER LOW Category (<50mg/l) , LOW Category (< 250mg/l), MEDIUM CATEGORY (<800mg/l), HIGH CATEGORY (>800mg/l).

The waters in the NATURALLY CARBONATED Category are rare and few people are actually aware that there are waters with naturally occurring carbonation.

DESIGN: With Fine Waters, the bottle design represents the brand and connects the consumer emotionally to the source of the water. The bottle is an important aspect of a story told in PET, GLASS, ALUMINUM, and Bag in a Box. Awards are given in each category for the design.

Point system:
Minimum points 90 and maximum points 100 with judges approved by the Fine Water Society.

Rating:
One number represents the overall taste and one number represents the design of the brand.

Awards
In each category Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards are given to the brands with the highest score.

Waters Qualified to Participate
Only natural unprocessed waters as defined by the Fine Water Society, are eligible. Participating brands need to be approved by the Fine Water Society.

Entry fee
There is no entry fee for current members of the Fine Water Society. The fee for non-members is $ 900 per brand for 3 categories (still/sparkling/design).
