The municipality of Mondariz Balneario is the smallest in Spain with an area less than 2 km², and exists thanks to its thermal springs. The man who first discovered the Mondariz waters was the local doctor Dr. Domingo Blanco Lage, who observed how the local people healed their derma logical injuries using these waters. He then started to recommend the waters within his medical profession for therapeutic ends.
